Welcome to the Ranch Journal

Field notes from a working ranch — why we're writing things down, and what you can expect to find here.

Welcome to the Ranch Journal
King's Ranch
Some places get quieter the longer you work them. This one hasn't. Between the vineyard rows going in on the east slope, the shop lights burning past dark, and the spring calves finding their feet, there's more happening on this land than we've ever managed to tell anyone about. So we're starting a journal.

This is where we'll write it down — not polished, not on a schedule, just honest notes from the people doing the work.

What you'll find here

Three kinds of stories, because this ranch runs three ways. From the furniture shop: new pieces as they come off the bench, the hides and hardwoods we've sourced, and the occasional look at how a single chair eats up six weeks. From the pastures: what's grazing, what's coming available for whole and half shares, and honest talk about how the animals were raised. And from the vineyard side: planting notes, harvest reports, and what we're learning about turning dry California hillside into wine country, one row at a time.

Why bother writing it down

Because most of what we sell can't be rushed, and the waiting makes more sense when you can see the work. A dining table that takes ten weeks isn't slow — it's a tree becoming furniture at the only speed that lasts. A quarter beef isn't ready when the calendar says so; it's ready when the animal is.

The land sets the pace. We just keep the books.

If something here catches your eye — a piece for your home, a share of beef for your freezer, or a hillside you've been wondering about planting — reach out through any of our sites. And if you just want to follow along, that's welcome too. Check back when the season changes. Something will have happened by then.
